Geer Street Cemetery volunteer shift: 02-19-2022

Event date:

Saturday, February 19, 2022 - 11:00am to 1:00pm

At Geer Street Cemetery, volunteers will help maintain this important place of Durham History. We’ll remove weeds, sticks, and other debris. Geer Cemetery is the oldest African American cemetery in Durham. It has been neglected since it closed in 1944, and Keep Durham Beautiful now organizes cleanups to help maintain this historic site. Durham Tech has partnered with Keep Durham Beautiful to help maintain Geer Street Cemetery for many years.

All Geer Street Cemetery volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and bring water. We strongly recommend you dress prepared to get dirty. Rain boots, hiking boots, or gardening boots are recommended but sneakers work fine.

A Durham Tech Center for College & Community Service representative will be at the event. Please check in with this representative before you begin your shift and at the end for a group reflection.
